THE JAPANESE CATASTROPHE. When Are We Going To Learn?

I've almost given up many times over the years trying to convince people that our religious beliefs are nothing more than dangerous primitive fears and fairy tales. In the last few years, better than a million people have been killed by natural disasters in our world in just the last few years. Men, women, and yes, little innocent children have all suffered premature death in ways too horrible to even imagine.

227,000 in the Indian Ocean tsunami. 230,000 in Haitian earthquake, and now Japan. Probably tens of thousands more That's just a few of the really big disasters. Incredible destruction, injury, death and suffering. Yet you believers still claim "God loves you", "God is protecting you". "Praise the lord", and the big one I'll never understand, "God is merciful".

If there was a God or any other entity that could create a planet such as earth in a matter of a few days let alone an entire universe, one would think he'd also have the power to stop these catastrophes from happening anytime he wanted. Especially when they kill his so called “beloved children” by the millions year after year after year.

If you have any doubts about what I'm saying while thousands of people are dying minute by minute under tons of mud and broken buildings then all I can say is that we deserve what we have been getting since we first knelt down to pray.

I was in Japan for two years and just like any other country, they have religious shrines and buildings everywhere you go. The amount of time, money, and resources wasted over the centuries is unimaginable. What if they had invested all those resources in scientific ways of preventing some of the natural disasters that befall their country. The tsunami might have been stopped at the beach or prevented all together. Praying doesn't do a damn bit of good as the Japanese people are finding out right this second.

Our planet is a beautiful place to live there's no doubt about that. But it also happens to be a very dangerous place to live as well. Why do we all sit on our asses and actually believe some invisible guy that lives in the sky somewhere is going to take care of us all? Isn't it fairly obvious to you by now that he simply doesn't exist, or just doesn't give a damn? Which one is it?
